SUMMER! :)

Last weekend was my best friend's 20th birthday and I (Nancy) decided it was a great idea to bake her some good old cupcakes, of course! Since we were planning on drinking champagne that night, I thought it would be very appropriate to make her the strawberry champagne cupcakes. (Pictures will be posted soon) I was so excited to bake them all week, and in the end they turned out pretty amazing!!! I love the recipe and will surely be making some more soon! The best part out of all of this was that finally a lot of my friends and coworkers had a chance to try them too, and to my surprise they loved it.

On the side note, the birthday was a success and we all had a great time! The next day I had to go to work and right before my lunch break I saw that there was a cupcake truck outside the window. Nope, it definitely was not Flirty's cupcakes (if that's what you guys are thinking). It was a green truck that had black bold writing that read, "CUPCAKES FOR COURAGE". I was pretty pumped and ready to try the new cupcake truck! Once I was on break, I went over and saw that they had about 5 flavors to choose from: Pink Velvet, Black and White, Vanilla, Strawberry and Dreamsicle. While waiting in line, I was contemplating on which flavor to choose from either Pink Velvet or Strawberry? Since I already had made strawberry flavored the night before, I decided to try the pink velvet. As it was my turn to order, there were two ladies in the truck. I asked them about their business and if they were newbies. They replied saying they were from a suburb called Elmhurst, which is actually near from where I am originally from. They said that they are new to this business and it was their second day in the city, so it was pretty exciting! I got a chance to tell them that my best friend and I blog about cupcake bakeries in Chicago, and they jotted down our site (so hopefully they checked us out!).

Anyway, after my lunch, I finally tried the cupcake and I must say it was very moist and spongey. It was definitely good and tasty and I for sure want to try more of their flavors again soon! I looked them up recently to find out more on their business and they are just like Flirty's that go around Chicago at certain times, different for each week (you can look up their schedule at their website: http://www.cupcakesforcourage.com/schedule.html).

So wondering why they are called, "Cupcake for Courage"? Well Cupcakes for Courage is the brain child of Kathryn and Laura Pekarik, two sisters that share the same passion for baking and want to share that passion with the world one cupcake at a time. Kathryn was dianosed with non-hodgkins t-cell lymphoma in May of 2010, and later that year had held a benefit to help raise money for her costs of medical care. Laura held a bake sale and baked 250 cupcakes at the event. After that they decided it was a great idea to bake cupcakes while also raising money for cancer. It's a very touching story and I love the story behind it! To find out more, again visit their site at Cupcakes for Courage.

Oh and also exciting! Someone ordered cupcakes from us! So Melanie and I will be busy baking all summer long! If you guys would like to order something, please let us know the flavor, amount, and time needed it by. We would love to bake for you.. Afterall, that is what we do best! :)

Until next time,
Nancy <3

Crummy

Hi all,
I'm sorry I know have been slacking lately. Even with all the craziness going on for the past month, I should have still been able to take 10 minutes of my time to update the site. I feel horrible and I am sincerely sorry. Now with that in the open we can get straight into business...
Back in the beginning of February, my roommate, Nancy and I met up with our dear friends Marcel and Eric to try out some new cupcakes. That particular day was freezing cold outside and we all ended up on a journey to find Crumbs Bakery. Crumbs Bakery is a new cupcake spot located on 303 W Madison St. Luckily we all happened to bump into each other on the street while searching for the bakery. It was almost seemed impossible to find, especially due to the ice cold weather. Eventually we found the small shop which was located a few stores away from The Cupcake Counter, another cupcake bakery.
When we got inside we were in awe by the fabulously decorated cupcakes. The cupcakes came in "signature" size, which was a little above average, and then "colossal" which was a huge cupcake cake.

Free Cupcakes for ALL!!!

Did you know that Sprinkles Cupcakes gives away free cupcakes every day? If you type in “Sprinkles Cupcakes” in the search box on Facebook, you will find Sprinkles’ page - www.facebook.com/sprinkles (also works on Twitter). Each day, around noon time (most likely) they post a new status up about receiving a free cupcake for the first 10th, 25th or even 50th customer to whisper a certain word at any Sprinkles location. If you are one of those lucky participants, you are granted a free cupcake.

Yep, that’s right; it definitely reels in the same customers coming back for more – true statement. With that being said, even as busy as we are, Melanie and I have found time to stop by Sprinkles for a free treat. I swear, probably half our time trying Sprinkles already has been free. Well it also doesn’t help that Melanie and I work a block away from the Sprinkles location!!!!! I think we have gone Sprinkles Crazy! I didn’t think it wasn’t that great, but now I kind of like it! :-)

Anyways, Melanie and I actually made some Halloween cupcakes recently and let’s just say.. it didn’t go very well! :-O I think it’s been way too long since we’ve made cupcakes from scratch! People, who did get a chance to try them, said they liked it and others said they didn’t. But they were for sure not our best ones! Oh well, everyone has their bad days.

We do want to make holiday cupcakes, and we sure will once our holiday break begins! It’s crazy to think of how fast this semester flew by, Melanie is actually almost done with this semester. So be excited that we will have more free time to upload videos and posts soon! Sorry guys!!! But we will definitely keep the updates consistent this time! :-) Okay well I think that is it for now..

PS- YOU CAN ORDER cupcakes, just let us know. We would love to make some for you!

Until next time,

Short & Sweet

Wow! What a birthday weekend! Melanie made me an awesome cupcake cake that tasted deliciouso! Here's a pic of it -

Me with the cake :)

Those of you who got to try it, it was chocolate cake on the bottom and strawberry cake on the top with strawberry pudding? Frosting was obviously chocolate, and she also added chocolate covered strawberries!!!! Aaaaah I want some more! Once again, thank you Melanie for taking your precious time to make this cake for me! :) Love you!

Anyway, since then, Melanie and I started working at our new job in the gold coast! We are literally a block away from Sprinkles. Therefore, we have been getting Sprinkles more than anyone could go. We are pretty fortunate to have received the free cupcakes they do every day! If you are a fan on their Facebook or Twitter you can see that they post a "whisper" word to say at each local store to receive a free cupcake! :)

We also visited More's Cupcakes and we decided we do not like their cupcakes! Sorry More's but your just not cutting it.

Melanie and I have been swamped with homework from school!!!! We hope to make the Strawberry Champagne cupcakes! And make more videos/order form. Sorry it's taking longer than expected. It should be up SOON hopefully.

A Kupcake Update :)

Hey guys! How’s it going? It’s been good for us. Ever since school has started, Melanie and I have been super busy and have not had a chance to write a blog, record videos or even bake more cupcakes. We want to apologize for not keeping you guys updated!

On a good note, Melanie and I are going to visit a new cupcake place next weekend for my birthday. Woo! I’m finally turning 21! I think we are going to try out Bittersweet Bakery! How exciting!

>> I decided my most favorite cupcakes from Sprinkles is definitely the banana and red velvet! Lovee it! Every time I go I feel like I'm obligated to buy two cupcakes instead of one! AHH!!

Also, I wanted to make note that we finally received our business cards! They look really cute and professional! I love them! I wanted to give a shout out to Karen Rinaldi (http://www.sukodesign.com/), who designed them for us! Thanks so much!

In the last blog post I mentioned how you guys can FINALLY order from us! When I get a chance, I will create an order form for you guys to fill out! That way it will be a lot easier for you to tell us what exactly you guys want! (Note: We only take orders of at least a dozen cupcakes).

Either email us at melanieandnancy@yahoo.com or leave a comment. We'll bake for parties, graduations, or for satisfaction! You choose.

Well that is it for now. Until then, comment or be the 2nd customer to order from us! :)

Hello?Hello??

Anyone out there? At times, Nancy and I feel like we are writing to ourselves. Since we rarely get comments on our blogs, pictures, and videos, we think no one is following us. However, we have been surprised with people coming up to us telling us that they follow our website. We are truly grateful for that and want to thank those who have commented on our pages. The whole reason Nancy and I have this website isn't just for ourselves, it is for you guys! We wanted to have an interactive website where we could share our cupcake experiences, whether we made some cupcakes or went to a bakery, and have you guys commenting back on us. We absolutely need YOUR feedback, or else we don't know that you are there.

Nancy and I are tough cookies, and haters out there aren't going to bring us down...! Although it can be a little discouraging when we get negative feedback and have no positive feedback to counter it. Where are our fans?? Nancy and I are passionate about what we do, but it isn't as enjoyable unless we get feedback from you, and I'm not talking to the haters. The good and bad, we want to hear from our actual fans. Tell us what you think about our blogs when you read them, how delicious our cupcake pictures look, or how silly we are in our videos, just say something please! Be that voice today, and show your support for Krazy4Kupcakes :)

You can start by commenting this blog after you read it. To help you get started I have a few suggestions in what you can talk about.
-Respond to the blog
-Tell us what you are passionate about
-Tell us about a time you have been discouraged and what you decided to do about it

Feel free to visit our youtube site to leave feedback as well :)

Update!!!!

Some extra news for us.....
Sprinkles is having a grand opening this Saturday from 1-4 pm! Melanie and I have been waiting for this day for a long time, but unfortunately we can't make it! :( We both work that day. If you want to go RSVP to tastesprinkles@jklspr.com! A few of my friends that work around the area that Sprinkles opened (Gold Coast) were very fortunate and already had a sneak peak of what Sprinkles taste like!

On another note, there has been a NEW icecream man (also known as) a cupcake van going around town selling cupcakes!!!! Supposedly they are definitely worth trying! I was working the other day when I saw the van outside my work! Ah!!!! I totally would have loved to get some, but I couldn't since my break wasn't until later that day.... So upsetting!! But for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, they are called "Flirty Cupcakes." You can find their daily routes on twitter.com/flirtycupcakes! I hope they stop at an area that I'm by so I can get a chance to try them out! On a good note, I got a few snapshots of what the van looks like and what's on their menu!

(See, the world is turning into a cupcake world!)

Also, Melanie and I decided to take a decorating cake class during the winter time! We are pretty pumped about that. :) We definitely need to work on more of our decorating skills! We also are baking more treats next week for her nephew's christening. Should be a fun time!

All right, I think that is it... Keep watching Cupcake Wars! A follower of ours on Twitter ("Stef Red Velvet") will be on the next episode of next week! How exciting!!!

MORE NEWS, "girlfeedsboy" on YOUTUBE gave us a helpful link to more cupcake updates! Here you guys go - http://streetfoodnow.blogs.chicago.timeout.com/

(Watch our FLIRTY CUPCAKES, you've got some COMPETITION!)

Till We EAT Again

Hello everyone,

It's around that time of the year where Nancy and I are done with school and are back in the burbs. This means we won't be posting up as many blogs. However, we do plan on trying a new cupcake place on the 4th of July since we will be in the city. As much as we love them, we have gone to Sweet Mandy B's and Molly's too many times. We need to venture out and see what the cupcake world in Chicago has to offer. We originally planned on going to Sprinkles, but we found out that it is not suppose to open untill mid-July. Hopefully Sprinkles will be open when we go to the city, but if not we are going to go to somewhere else on our list. I'm so glad summer is here, but I am sad to leave Chicago and the cupcakes. Maybe Nancy and I will make cupcakes while we are home and fix our videos. Nancy and I keep finding out about new cupcake places in the city, so we will definitely be busy next year =)

Love,

K4K

Say goodbye to the old, hello to the new!

A new year has begun and I thought that I would use my web design skills to test. Besides the crazy and long hours or even days that I put towards this, it was so worth it! I think this website looks way more organized than our first one. :)

The only bad part about this is that all the blogs are dated wrong because I had to move all of them over. However I did include the date they were REALLY published on each article title.

But yeah, enjoy guys! Hopefully this will improve the traffic we get on our site!

We also recently made a TWITTER page! So if you're one of them that uses Twitter, come support us! Woo! www.twitter.com/krazy4kupcakes (you can also find it on the right side panel if you keep scrolling down.)

Let us know what you think of our page! Or comment otherwise. As always, we would LOVE to hear from you! :)

Much love,
K4K

Happy Thanksgiving! (November 26, 2009)

Hi everyone,

We would like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving! I'm thankful for the opportunity Nancy and I have for our website. We really hope one day we could buy our own website. I'm also thankful for our Facebook fans. We are almost at 100! I would like to encourage you guys to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE comment on our blogs. We need your feedback.

Any who, the reason I am posting this blog is to let you know that Krazy4Kupcakes is going on a little break. I have already started my winter break and Nancy will be back at home soon too. In this case, we cannot resume our trips to bakeries while we are back in the suburbs. We may however make some cupcakes together and post those pictures up, or try some cupcakes in the burbs. Also, look forward to the video that should be posted any day now!

As soon as we are both back in Chicago, we will resume our adventure.
Have a happy holiday!

PS, a little update on Sweet Mandy B's, they have opened their ice cream section!! Can't wait to try it out.

Love, Melanie and Nancy
